Volunteer Testimonies

"It's a pleasure to come out and work with a group of men that are assisting others, giving a hand up instead of a hand out."

Volunteer | Retired Captain, United States Army
"I began volunteering with Appalachian Youth Missions in 2015. I never imagined the effect volunteering would have on others and how it would impact my life. Spending time with A.Y.M has changed my life in so many ways. I am impressed with the high standards of integrity and accountability that Appalachian Youth Missions and Project Foundations For Families examples. I strongly recommend A.Y.M to any person seeking to advance themselves in character."
Richard Elliot
Volunteer | Retired, Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
"My experience working on a project site with Foundation For Families was equally fulfilling and gratifying. I got to work with some really great people in an environment that is conducive to teamwork. One thing that really stood out to me was that we didn’t waste anything. All the wood we cleared out went to people who use it to heat their homes and all the scrap metal was reused as well. I initially volunteered here as a part of a class requirement in which we could choose somewhere to volunteer for 6 hours over the course of the semester, and even though I got all 6 hours on the first day, I have been going back nearly every weekend since. While all volunteer work is good, I chose Foundation For Families because of the immediate impact I would be making and because I have always enjoyed manual labor. The people leading this organization truly care about our community and helping the people in it, as well as helping their volunteers in any way they can. Although I have already completed my 6 service hour requirement, I plan to keep going back every weekend, and I could not recommend this foundation highly enough for anyone that wants to make a difference in their community."
